You don't need to go far to get away.

This image was taken in the fading light of a beautiful day. I spotted the lovebirds, snuggling on the lifeguard's empty chair, after my evening swim. Brighton Beach is a 30-minute subway ride from my former home in Brooklyn. I always feel renewed going there. Like I've been on vacation.

Find places near you that take you out of yourself. Whether it's a hike in a park, a drink on an outdoor terrace, or an idle wander in a bookstore. With a little creativity, get the feeling of adventure without leaving town.
